A few years back, the FHS PTSA board opted out of labor-intensive fundraisers like an auction, where we encouraged people to buy stuff they might not need or want. Instead, we have limited such events to a holiday wreath sale in the winter and a plant sale in the spring and tied them to actual seasonal needs.  We’ve also refocused much of our energy into passive fundraisers like the Bottle Drop and Fred Meyer Rewards programs (Franklin High School PTSA or E1267 for Fred Meyer), partnering with restaurants and seeking local business sponsors.   At the beginning of last school year, we received funding requests totaling $37,000, but were only able to fulfill grants totaling half of that amount because that is all the PTSA had been able to raise. As we continue to ramp up our efforts to raise revenue and restore our coffers post-pandemic, we also have come to rely on a direct appeal to FHS families for donations. If every FHS family gives  just $1, we’ll raise close to $2,000, and if they are able to pitch in $5, we’ll have nearly $10,000. Every donation is an investment in the future of students and education at our school, and we hope those who are able, will donate.  Where does the PTSA money go, you wonder? This year, we purchased a computer for the journalism program, a projector screen for the library, kiln shelving and high-fire glazes for ceramics, a worm composting bin to turn waste into compost for the climate justice class, mock trial/debate tournament fees and food handlers cards for special education students and staff to run the coffee cart, Strong Coffee. And as always, we supply funding for FHS affinity groups, Staff Appreciation, the College and Career Center, SUN, the Library, and more.
